TILES OR GRANITE / MARBLE ?

Renovating and replacing the flooring in your home can be a challenging task. From where to start? What material should you use? These obvious questions bother everyone.

Tiles, Granite/Marble both are good options for flooring. The choice depends on several factors like your budget, house interior demand, use etc.

Tiles

Tiles: There are two kinds; ceramic and porcelain.  The main difference between them is that the porcelain is pure silica right through to the bottom. Ceramic tiles have around a 1/2" layer of tile on a base (usually cement). They work better in cooler environments because they don't retain heat.

Advantage

1. They are Cheaper Comparatively to Granite And Marbles

2. Very low maintenance,

3. Hard wearing and easy to clean.

4. Come with a large variety of sizes, colours and designs.

Disadvantage

1. Tiles thickness is very less so it can also cause mutual damage and cracks when objects fall on them.They are also prone to cracking if there is no place for them to expand and shrink (not installed properly).

2. Tiles last for 10 Years approx. There may be decrease in its Glossy, Color may fade since it is artificially made

Granite

Granite/ Marbl is a naturally occurring material that is formed when magma cools down over millions and billions of years. Since granite is essentially cooled magma, it is bound to be loaded with various minerals that appear as beautiful veins on the surface of granite slabs.

Advantage

1. Granite material is extremely hard to cut. It is a porous material good for cooler climates as it doesn't retain heat.

2. Lots of options and sizes. More variety than tiles because you can cut it any shape you want or have large seamless slabs of marble.

3. Nowadays Granite is available in Glossy, Matte finish and also rough.

4. Low maintenance and easy cleaning

5. It last forever. If there is any reduce in glossy you can repolish it without any civil work. Great example for this is TAJ MAHAL.

Disadvantage

1. Expensive when compared to Tiles but Cheaper than Marble

2. Hard to Install.

3. Choosing the right granite without any knowledge is difficult. Like all other substance even this have adulteration.
